Y4 Walliams Class

walliams

Miss Bolton, Mrs McKenna and Mrs Bartholomeusz will be the teaching staff in Walliams Class. We are all very excited to be back in school and undertaking our ‘Journey to Excellence’ this year.

We are very lucky to have such exciting topics, we will be focusing on The Romans in autumn and The Anglo-Saxons in spring. As well as this, we will be studying a very famous Volcano and the city it buried. We will be looking closely at our local area in spring term. In ‘Bottoms, burps and bile’ we will be learning about the digestive system with some interesting experiments. We will also be learning how to be responsible citizens in Frozen (Elsa not included) and how to keep our planet safe in environmental science. We are going to be learning in a cross curricular approach and using these topic skills to support our reading and writing.

Please do take a look at the curriculum overview maps to see what other academic content we will be covering throughout each term.

We would recommend that PE kits are in school and available at all times. This is because although we have scheduled time slots, we also have the opportunity to try out ‘taster sessions’ of different sports led by outside coaches on different days from time to time. It would be a shame to miss out on these extra special lessons!

Although during the current climate we are not sending books home, it is still vital your children are reading at home to further develop their love of reading. We have allocated reading slots at school to ensure we are developing this passion. Alongside reading, please make sure you are completing 10 minutes a day on Doddle Maths. This is a fun and interactive, child friendly program which the children should be completing with minimal support.

Homework will be set every Friday to be returned the following Wednesday. This will involve a maths task and spellings as well as some English, Humanities or Science. Homework must be accessed through the Google Classroom and returned through the ‘turn it in’ button.

Should you have any concerns or wish to discuss anything, please do not hesitate to speak to me at the school gate or phone/email to organise an appointment as it is sometimes difficult to catch up in the current climate!

And one final note! Please don’t forget to label your children’s school uniforms and PE kit items; this makes it far easier to track down the correct child regarding any lost property.

Thank you! The wonderful Year 4 Walliams team – Miss Bolton, Mrs McKenna and Mrs Bartholomeusz!
