Y4 Walliams Class
Hello and welcome to Year 4 Walliams!
Miss Bamford, Mrs Deragon and I are very much looking forward to the upcoming year and cannot wait to share some of our exciting plans with you!
In Humanities this year, we will be focusing on The Romans in autumn and The Anglo-Saxons in spring. As well as this, we will be studying a very famous Volcano and the city it buried. To finish off the year, we will also have an exciting opportunity to learn about our local hometown of Caterham.
Please do take a look at the curriculum overview maps to see what other academic content we will be covering throughout each term, including our very funky half-termly titles.
We would recommend that PE kit is in school and available at all times. This is because although we have scheduled time slots, we also have the opportunity to try out ‘taster sessions’ of different sports led by outside coaches on different days from time to time. It would be a shame to miss out on these extra special lessons!
We cannot stress how important it is to try and read with your child as often as possible. Whilst we accept that sometimes parents are extremely busy, reading provides children with a basic skill that encounters everything they will do, both inside of school and out. Even just listening to the children whilst you are preparing dinner is beneficial!
Homework will be set every Friday to be returned the following Wednesday. This will involve a maths task and spellings as well as some English, Humanities or Science. Homework must be brought back each week on time. We have begun the year using homework books, but will be moving to using folders once each child has finished their homework book in order to save some paper and be more environmentally friendly.
Should you have any concerns or wish to discuss anything, please do not hesitate to come and speak to me. I am always happy to be around for a quick chat in the mornings, or alternatively we can arrange an appointment after school. In addition to this, you are always welcome to write a note and pass it to me in the mornings, and we can arrange a time to discuss it further at a later date.
And one final note! Please don’t forget to label your children’s school uniforms and PE kit items; this makes it far easier to track down the correct child regarding any lost property.
The wonderful Year 4 Walliams team – Miss Hart, Miss Bamford and Mrs Deragon
Home Learning Tasks and school closure
It is important that whilst children are off school they maintain a routine of learning as far as a possible, in order to ensure a positive mental well-being. The school has created some creative home learning packs which we would like all parents to have a go at doing with your child(ren) at home. These will be updated on a weekly basis.
