At Audley Primary School, we use the Islington ‘You, Me, PSHE’ scheme of work, in combination with the Random Acts of Kindness (RAK) curriculum to inform our teaching of Personal, Social, Health, Citizenship and Economic (PSHCE) Education.

Intent, implementation and impact

Why is PSHCE taught the way we teach it?

We believe that the pupils at Audley Primary School deserve to leave our school as confident, responsible, caring and enquiring individuals who are well prepared for life in modern Britain.

Our curriculum aims to help all of our pupils to understand how they are developing both personally and socially and to tackle many of the moral, social and cultural issues that are part of growing up enabling them to develop healthy, safe relationships. We strive to provide our children with learning opportunities across and beyond the curriculum, allowing them to learn about rights and responsibilities, encouraging them to challenge ideas and voice their opinions in a safe environment.

The culture of ‘Learning for Life’ that permeates across our whole school focuses on equipping children with the key life skills they will require to be part of the diverse and rapidly changing society we live in. We aim to prepare them for the world of work and support them in developing enterprise skills and financial awareness. We encourage the development of characteristics for life such as a love of learning, resilience, integrity, team work, critical thinking and independence.

Our children are encouraged to be proud and to develop their sense of self-worth by playing a positive role in contributing to school life and the wider Audley community.

What makes Audley’s coverage/approach to PSHCE effective?

Our PSHCE lessons aim to develop skills and attributes such as resilience, self-esteem, risk-management, team working and critical thinking in the context of learning. Lessons are grouped into three core themes: health and wellbeing; relationships; and living in the wider world; driven by Audley’s bespoke combination of the ‘You, Me and PSHE’ scheme, alongside the Random Acts of Kindness (RAK) curriculum.

Relationships and Sex Education (RSE); Anti-bullying; and Drugs and Alcohol form part of Audley’s PSHCE implementation; as detailed in the strands of learning coverage below.

What do we want an Audley pupil to know/have experienced/be able to do before they leave Year 6, with regard to PSHE?
