Welcome to Rosen Class!

Our wonderful class teacher is Mrs Afzal, and we are lucky to have three amazing teaching assistants supporting our learning: Mrs Simpson, Ms Shilliday and Mrs Hopkins. Together, they help make Rosen Class a fun, exciting and inspiring place to learn.

We are an enthusiastic, charismatic and happy class, always curious and ready to explore new ideas. This year, we can’t wait to dive into exciting topics, discover new skills and share our learning with each other.

Our class is named after the fantastic author Michael Rosen, who has written many of our favourite stories and poems, including Little Rabbit Foo Foo, Blue and Chocolate Cake. We love his playful way with words and enjoy reading and performing his poems. This year we’ll also be exploring traditional stories and other classics, such as We’re Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen and The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle.

Our classroom and outdoor area are bright, welcoming and full of colour. Displays celebrate our brilliant work and also act as helpful tools for our learning. Around the room, resources are neatly organised in clearly labelled trays, so we can be independent and take responsibility for our own learning.

This year is especially exciting as we are moving from Reception routines into Year 1 routines. That means we’ll still have plenty of fun, creative activities, but we’ll also be getting used to more structured lessons and timetables. We will be practising sitting at our Home Seats, following set lesson times, and building up our independence and resilience as learners.

In Rosen Class, everyone has a role to play. We have special monitors called Classroom Helpers who take on important jobs each day, helping us to look after our classroom and each other.

We absolutely love reading! Our cosy Woodland Reading Corner is filled with some of our favourite books, always ready for us to curl up with. We use Little Wandle in our phonics sessions to help us grow as confident readers, supported by our colourful phonics display, grapheme chart and words of the week.

Maths in Rosen Class is active and hands-on. We explore numbers through games, challenges and practical activities. We practise place value, addition, subtraction, measuring, problem-solving and even times tables with the help of our interactive displays.

We also enjoy keeping active! This year, we will need to come into school wearing our PE kit on Mondays and Thursdays so we are ready straight away for our PE and Games lessons.

Our learning doesn’t stop there. We also enjoy cross-curricular topics that weave together subjects like Art, Science, History and Geography. Our first exciting topic is ‘Enchanted Woodlands’, where we will immerse ourselves in magical stories, explore nature and use our imaginations to link our learning across different subjects.
